    Model 47 deck speed up

Is there a way to change the input pulley on a model 47 deck to speed up the blades a little bit? Has anybody tried this

Probably but I see no reason to do it having owned a 47 deck since 1984. JD has them geared so the the BTP (blade tip speed) is at the ideal speed at full throttle. Find something else to worry about. Roger

"find something else to worry about"? That seems a little rude/hostel. I'm not trying to argue with anyone concerning the engineering of John Deere. I'm just trying to improve the performance of my mower is all. Sorry if you took that offensively, I'm not trying to irritate anyone

    Well, all that being said.
I have the same issue with mine. It just doesnt spit grass out very well.
    The first question biscuit1,
Have you checked your engine rpms?
I have adjusted my 212 to 3550 rpms.
Max rpm is 3600, set by the governor in the motor.
If you havent checked your max rpm, you need to.
You may need to make carb adjustments or governor adjustments or timing adjustment.

There was a speed up jack sheeve available at one time, unfortunately its NLA.

Now I have read a post about a guy welding a 5 in pulley on top of the jack sheeve to speed it up.
Apparently it's not recommended, cause of blade tip speed.
It becomes a liability in today's world.

Another option is getting a newer style deck and fitting it to your tractor. I have a 38 in deck on a 212, and it spits grass with ease. Not sure why, other than deck design.

So there are a few options for ya.
    85 JD 212 - 46 in deck
    77 JD 212 - 38 in deck - 43 blade - 37a thrower
    88 JD 318 h3 - 54 in quick hitch 4 way hyd blade - Ruegg cat 0 3pt hitch - rear blade.
Ruegg front weight bracket - Aux hyd positive lockout
    72 JD 140 H3 - 48 in deck.

If you guys really want to do this if you use a deck drive pulley off a 39 deck it should speed up the blades as the shorter 39 blades spin faster to have the right blade tip speed. I am not sure but you may also need to use a drive belt from the engine to the mower for the 39 deck. Roger
