NASA had live feed on Youtube of launch of "John Glenn" supply rocket to space station that lifted off at 11:11 AM EST.
It was pretty neat to watch and brought back memories of being in school and watching the launching of the Apollo missions.
You don't start that vehicle; you light it.
Seeing one of the Saturn five rockets lift off must be a sight to have with you. still the most powerful vehicle ever created, as far as I know.
last one used in the mid late 70s, not for a moon shot, but to link up with Russian cosmonauts(sp) in earth orbit.
I believe nasa realized it was overkill.
cool video. Jeff.
Spare parts are free. Use what you already own. They believed the next heavy lift was around the corner, but I think it's an atlas replacement is much less robust.
I look forward to seeing the next space x heavy lift.
On a side note Canada just commissioned a space port on the Atlantic coast. Even though well easy of me I might see the light of nighttime launches.
Speaking of Saturn V rocket, here's video of the first 30 seconds of "lighting the candle" (supposedly coined by Alan Shepard on Freedom 7 launch in 1961) shot with 16 mm camera by NASA to show/study lift off. It runs about 8 minutes. It is fascinating that those things created 7.5 million pounds of thrust to lift the astronauts to the moon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKtVpvzUF1Y
It was amazing of the technology & engineering that got this thing off the ground with just slide rules and brain power.
