Hi All,

Second day in a row the the garage has had a smell. Went on a road trip yesterday and got a 318. Kids called and said the garage smelled like gas. Got home and noticed a puddle under the 140. Ran it around the sub-division that night before with no problems. Gas tank was bout 7/8 full. Investigated it; found the dripping coming from the end of the air cleaner, took it off and noticed the gas leaking from the carb. Cleaned around it and put a rag in it over night.

Noticed the bad smell of gas again this morning along with a large puddle of gas. Still leaking in the same area. Any clues of what is going on? Any detailed ideas of how I can approach this problem would be greatly appreciated. I am going to take the carb apart when I get home from Church for starters and then the fun will begin. Too nice of 140 to sit out of the garage due to this problem.

Thanks, Jim

I have a model 320 with the Kawasaki FD590v-AS00 engine. Over the last weekend I started to get steam vapor from the exhaust. I immediately stopped mowing and parked it. The total hours are just over 500. I already planned to pull the engine this winter and replace the "plastic" cam. I went ahead and pulled the engine now. I am 90% certain the head gasket was the coolant problem. My main question is, does anyone here know if the Kawasaki FD590v-AS05 is the same engine? I know the AS-00 designation was specific for OEM to Deere. Obviously, parts prices are different from my local Deere shop vs what I can find online for the AS05. Since I am taking it far enough to do the cam I might as well freshen the rings, and carburetor. All tolled, it appears I'll have several hundred in parts and could save a lot if I can avoid the dealer.

Kerry there is no way to know for sure on the parts. That is due to an exclusivity agreement between JD and Kawasaki at the the time JD started using Kawasaki engines. Maybe but most parts can't be returned if they are not the same. Roger
