Hi all,

I'll be picking up a 140 H3 project. The serial tag under the steering on the back of the pedestal reads F0586 067983M.

None of these numbers make sense against the TractorData.com link as the type number should start with a "T" and the serial should end around 56501.

So, any idea what year this is? Thanks!

56501 would be the first 1974 built, not the last.
Would need a better picture of the tag to determine if it is an F or T, should be a T.

Looks like a weak T that has a skid from many years ago making it look like a F to me.

Now that you mention it, that looks most likely. I can kind of see a bar extending to the left.

74 was the last year for the 140.

Yep My 74 deere is T0585 63669

so yours is a bit younger than mine.

WFM has a Resourses Section with all kinds of accurate info on JD L&G Tractors. I've found many other sites to have some pretty obvious errors.

I rented a trailer and drove the 45 or so minutes to pick it up. Inspected it, found that the rear output shaft of the pump was sheered off, the grill was missing, the PTO was missing and the engine was out and on the ground. I wouldn't have minded the engine itself, I can rebuild most anything but the extra parts missing and broken pump shaft turned me off.

Sounds like a good parts tractor. Too bad.
