Hey guys I recently bought a 1973 140 H3. It's a great little tractor but it has developed quite the transmission leak from left side trunnion shaft seal and slightly from the right side. I have looked all over the web with not much luck and no luck from local john deere dealer getting the seals. Anyone have any experience changing these little guys out and also sourcing out the new seals or maybe even a cross referenced seal? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Andrew. If you are talking axle seals I changed out my 74 and had no problem getting seals from deere. I did have to make my own gaskets out of gasket material from auto arts store. Seal part number AM32776 for seals outboard of bearing. Seal AM33678 in board of bearing. Gasket material needs to be .031" thick. Not sure if that is what you are looking for.

The seal I'm talking about is the one on the actual transmission itself. One side just has a little stub sticking out and the other side has the cam gear for the hydrostatic. I haven't taken it apart just yet because when I called deere the parts were discontinued. I was even thinking about picking up some stop leak or some kind of additve like that just to slow it down a little.

Joe, thanks this is exactly what I'm looking for. I believe I do have a seal puller tool that I would be using for this job. Do you know if I can pull the old seals out without removing the shaft or does the shaft have to come out first? I will be attempting this with the trans in the tractor so I'm expecting it to be a nightmare. If you also have a JD part number for the seals that would be awesome, maybe even the seal size so that I can cross reference it. Where'd you get your trunnion seals from?

It is possible, though not easy to pull the seals out. The shafts can only be removed by total hydro teardown.
On a later 300 the right part # is M86241. On a 140 the right number is AM3426T. For some reason JDparts has never corrected their error.
English Metric

Here's the the specs for AM3426T

Specification
Weight: 0.00 LBS 0.00 Kg
Shaft Diameter 0.688 IN
Seal Outside Diameter 1.003 IN
Width 0.188 IN
Spring Type NONE
Number of Lips SINGLE
Seal Material NITRILE
Finish

All of my later model 140's have leaked from this location...not enough to be a big problem, so have not gotten around to attacking the seal to date.
