Fred, my wife cut an area of grass that I never cut with the tractor due to having a lannon stone walkway and a steep grade (always used the push mower).
She hit the corner of one stone hard enough to break a piece of the housing. I noticed there were oil streaks on the grass and ran over to tell her to stop. By the time I got it into the garage, I had just about lost all steering and forward power.
Luckily the piece of aluminum was still hanging there and didn't end up inside the transaxle.

UPDATE:
I ended up using JB Weld with success. I've been using the loader for several days since with no leaks until yesterday...

Apparently something happened inside the transmission because I was moving some dirt when I noticed oil on the ground, jumped off and looked underneath to see hydraulic fluid pouring out again.
This time it was leaking in a different spot and I know I didn't hit anything so I figure it's time for surgery.

Took it all apart and found 3 teeth laying in the bottom of the case, they came off the biggest gear in the transmission (not sure what that gear is called)
but it looks as if the teeth randomly got picked up and wedged between the big gear and the housing which resulted in the housing giving way and pushing the tooth right through making a hole.

Guess maybe now I'd best hang on to the spare trans-axle I have for that series tractor . I also have a 455 and a 445/loader tractor + my next door neighbor has a 425 . Hope I never need it , but will be nice if either of us ever do need parts / replacement .

Deere wants 4500 bucks for a new replacement trans-axle , Ouch ..., And I know they think a lot of the individual parts also .
