Did some checking with three different digital multi meters tonight, all showed the same results. Stator wires to ground no ohms. Across both wires gong to the stator I get 2.5 ohms. Battery wire on regulator I get near battery voltage.
Now for the wierd part, whenever I try to check voltage with the engine running at the battery, stator, battery wire at the regulator or anywhere else my multi meter goes wacky. The display will not settle down and just flashes random numbers. checking both the ac and dc sides, doesn't matter whether the stator is hooked to the regulator or not still flashes.
Hooked a analog battery load tester to the battery and I can get a steady reading.
I know the regulator is toast, been hot, tried one off a parts tractor, condition unknown but probably junk, no change.
Any ideas?

Stator puts out AC voltage.

Unplug the 2 leads coming from under the flywheel from the regulator and measure the AC voltage from them when its running. I dont have the spec in front of me, but someone will likey know.

I'm guessing you had your digital multi meters set for DC measurements. When you measure AC with the meter set for DC, you get all kinds of wacky measurements. I'm also guessing that your regulator has at least 1 bad diode, allowing pulsing DC/AC thru to the battery, also giving wacky multi-meter readings.

Did that, had it on ac, multi meter went wacky.

Roger
I knew the voltage. I did test it the way Mike D said, meter went wacky.

Steve
Had the meters set for DC when checking battery and AC when checking the stator. I would get wacky readings with all wires unplugged from regulator and the engine running.

Had a couple minutes to look at it today, found the wire butcher went a little farther than I previously thought. I'll have to do more looking this weekend.
