Started working on the 1969 jd 140 h1 and drained the trans and took the old filter off. drained the oil in the motor and started monkeying around on some other stuff, then looked over and notice that behind the drain plug was another filter. I can't find a part number for it in any of my books. Any ideas????? Thanks Also found that the PO had put tubes in the rear tires and attempted to put anti-freeze in them. Boy you talk about a shock when I went to take them off, not expecting the extra weight.

I don't know if all the early (pre '71) 140s have the filter that Allen mentioned, but I've seen at least one. It's actually a screen filter, inside the hydro, that comes out with the drain plug, I think. I couldn't find it on JDparts either.

Funny, it's not pictured anywhere, but the service manual says it's right inside the drain hole, behind the plug. You should remove it with needle nose pliers, rinse it and put it back. I'll see it later this week.

That's the one. So just take it out and clean it, then put it back? you would think they would want to sell you that screen. Mine looks kinda nasty, apparently nobody ever cleaned it. Thanks for all the info. Allen
