Recently acquired 140 h3 serial # 007386m
Kohler k301as

No coil or Solid state, plug wire goes into engine shrouds.

replaced wiring harness with one made by agri-services.

Replacement Hapco Ignition Switch_2
Switch looks and is labeled the same as switch that was in tractor. 4 posts. I will try and upload a picture.

I can get it to turn over, and I have power on the orange aux lead and lights when turning over, I however do NOT get any power on the white lead to condenser/points or even at the post where the white wire connects to the ignition switch.

Seems odd that I would have 2 switches bad.
I am looking for a little help.

I am willing to go with a coil ignition, but before I go that route I need to figure out the power lead.

Thanks,
Derek

I chased a gremlin in my 72 140 for a long time before I discovered that there was a broken tab in the wiring harness Key switch plug. I would get intermittent spark, but the tractor would turn over just fine. The tractor harness was in rough shape anyway, so I ended up cutting off the plug and crimping female spade connectors on instead. That solved the issue. Our keyswitches have a different configuration, but I would check the plug just the same.

Thanks for response Dan.
I tested with my lead on the switch terminal that you can see in the first picture. The terminal on the left with the white wire.

The white wire/terminal should have power when starter is engaging correct?

I've got the manuals and wiring diagrams but I am not fully understanding this magneto setup.

Derek, did agri-service have a wiring harness for a <10,000 serial number 140? It's not listed in catalog on website. I emailed them once and they said they didn't have that. Did you get the 10000 - 22400 one? If so, did it have all the right connections etc? Could that be part of problem? I have a 32xx serial number and could use a new harness.
