Tractor is in not too bad shape mechanically. It will start and run if you spray carb cleaner down the throat. Cosmetically, it needs some work. 48" deck needs spindles.
The 185 came with either an Eaton or a Sundstrand hydrostatic transmission, depending on the serial number break. I believe the earlier ones had the Eaton, same as the 111H, 112L, 116H, 165 and 175 lawn tractors. The later 185s used the Sundstrand.
The trans is a Sundstrand. I originally bought the 185 as a parts tractor it because the trans in my 165 stripped a gear spline (that mates with the axel spline) and I was going to swap in the Sundstrand out of the 185. Well, that proved more difficult that I originally thought, so I got the 185 running and did what I had to do. Later I fixed the 165 trans and the 185 has just been sitting around taking up space.
Here’s one in my garage. It has a sundstrand label on it but it’s definitely a tuff torq👍🏻 All 3 of us are right in this case. Anyway, I think thier a great transmission 👍🏻
