I need some help on my new to me 265. It was traded in at my place of work in non-running condition. I sprayed some starting fluid in it and it fired up and I drove it on the trailer. I brought it home to start the cleanup. We adjusted the choke and got it to start without giving it a sniff. The other night, we tried to start it and it backfired thru the exhaust. We looked it over and tried again and it started fine. It hasn't started since. We have tried carb cleaner and starting fluid both and it still backfires thru the exhaust and sometimes thru the intake. I don't know anything about Kawasaki engines, but I'm leaning towards the flywheel key as the culprit. It has 120 lbs. compression after about 8 turns. My local dealer tells me it has a steel cam gear so I don't think it's out of time. Has anybody had a similar problem? Sorry for the long-winded post.
Thanks, Jim

I adjusted the valves last night. Deere says .006 on the lash for both. Exhaust was off a little bit but not bad. Same result, still backfires. Any body else got some suggestions? Thanks for the reply Roger, I just hadn't gotten that far Tuesday night before I had to quit for supper.
Thanks, Jim

Jack, I had the valve cover off when I adjusted the valves and spun the motor over. No sticking there. I am now trying to get the flywheel off to check and replace the key. So far no luck. Thanks for the suggestion. Anybody?

A year ago I picked up a '68 110 (serial 100,46x) and I am finally getting around to working on it. The tractor was rescued from "organ donor" status at a shop south of Sioux City. I am currently working to see if the k181 will run and I need to sort out the wiring. Does anyone have a wiring harness diagram of this machine that they would be willing to share? Various types of searches on the forum and the internet did not yield a result. I am guessing some of that is because this early tractor has a magneto.

Thanks!

I do have the hood, supports, and most other pieces for it. I also have the original deck with the 4-legged Deere logo on it. I have swapped the original Walbro carb for a Carter N as I don't play well with Walbros.

Thanks Joe!

These early 110's with the magneto are new to me and I hope one of the gear drive gurus can add some insights.
