new around here for posting but I have done some reading its a great site to learn from!

any way I have a 1969 140 H1 with a sleeve hitch on the back

got it from my uncle's garden tractor auction collection,
"he has health problems and not able to answer question's about the machine anymore"

wondering is the sleeve hitch that is on the back a Home Made job or if is a produced by any company.

some Pics of the 69 and the sleeve hitch

thanks for any thought or comments.

top link is just a solid rod more or less it dosn't pull in or push out or that I have found. though I have not done alot of looking at it.

it just makes that when going up/down the sleeve stays in a vertical plane. where most sleeve rotate as they come up if I understand how the standard ones work.

pretty sure the wires you see are for the rear tail lights.

I'm a learning as I go on these 140's

but so far I really like it for doing yard work. I got a Heavy Hitch sleeve hitch to receiver hitch adapter and used it for backup up a trailer to my small shop opening and it was way easier to use the 140 than to use a ATV

also used it to pull a small limp out of the wood to the brush pile

so I had the 69 140 out this weekend and hauled my yard trailer around moving some things getting ready for the winter season.

Really like the 140 for backing up the trailer where I want it to be. Compared to using a ATV.

then I had some extra time and thought it'd be nice to free up the bolts that lock in the sleeve hitch attachments so that the sleeve hitch dosn't swing side to side like it does.

Back the 140 into my little work shop and up on some car ramp to make working on the rear hitch a little easier to due.

was looking at the bottom attachment of my sleeve hitch and 1 side missing a nut so I think I'll just put a nut on and low and be hold the bolt on the 1 side is broken so Off comes the sleeve hitch and the top link and the holding bracket on 1 side as I'll need to have the broken bolt pressed out of where its stuck.

broken bolt is on the right side of the sleeve hitch.

when working on the sleeve hitch I found where looks like somebody added some extra weights to the machine.

the first pic where the wrench is touching is appx 7" tall by 14" long by 1" thick

Top weight is appx 3" tall by 8" long by 4" wide.

sorry I could'nt get better pics its on my list some day to take off the rear seat pan and get a better look but I didn't have that amount of time.

I got the sleeve hitch off due to broken bolt and then had to drill out the standard hitch to make my 2" ball fit then back on the trailer and into its storage shed.

Your 140 is officially a member of the ugly duckling club, which is for tractors that aren't hideous but not pretty. Yours can be vice president, alongside my 69 H1, Larry.
yes I like your 1 light 140 as well Hope Larry is all well and good and did you get the front headlight panel fixed up at all yet?

on a side not once I had the sleeve hitch all out

with some PB Blaster and some talking to with the Impact wrench I did get the bolts out that set the sleeve hitch tightness, I don't know what those 2 bolts are called that are on both sides of the attaching Pin.

I'm thinking I might just go and get new bolts for that as those didn't turn in and out the best but they are out and didn't break off in the sleeve hitch.
which is a plus i suppose that was what I wanted to due was free them up. Just wasn't planing on having to take the sleeve hitch all the way off.

the mounting bolt must have been broken for a while as there wasn't fresh shinny metal when I got it apart showing recent break.

just glad I didn't cause alot of bending of things before I found it broken and make a bigger mess of things than I now have

does any body have a Pic of where you adjust the creep for the 69 140? Its different than the newer 140's correct?

Knottyrope, posted this
if the hand hydro lever is solid and not loose, you can adjust the eccentric bolt on the hydo under the tractor but it might have a flat spot in it already as the get jammed with dust

but is that for the newer 140's than the 69 that this is,

sorry for asking repetitive questions, its just I'd like to know what I need to look for before I look for it.

thanks for all your help with this I sure due appreciate it.

so I had the bolt that connects the sleeve hitch to frame the twin to the broken one and took to the hardware store and gave to the guy there and he said it wasn't a common size or thread that he could match up with what they had there.

I was off on different quest "bolts for the Sofa at Home" so I didn't want to look over his shoulder and rummage through stuff my self.
he's been real good for getting me other thing's and I seem to remember that John Deere has its own belts for things and wonder if they would due that with there own bolts on things?

thinking this has got to be a standard size? but looks like fine thread? I have this one out the one on the other side is broken in half and I'll need to replace that. can I just go to a deere dealership and pray for the best on this? thanks for your thoughts.

this is the bolt in question

thanks Mudrig, I stopped by a John Deere dealer on Friday and they set me up with some bolts that I can use,
I stopped in for other parts I needed and asked them since I was there.
I was out of my regular area and I talked some smack about the dealership in my area to them and they seemed to like that fact and was willing to try and look it up.
didn't find anything but the one guy took the good bolt to the back matched it up with something they had.

Now I just need to get the broken one pressed out and a little work on the sleeve tubing and it can go back on the tractor.

got a new attachment for the 140,

front mounted weight bracket with a receiver hitch built in.

I have a bunch of small trailers for use with ATV's and backing them up in there storage shed's is a problem this is gonna make that alot easier to due.

just wondering I have some other question's about things for this 140 should I start another thread for them or just add to this one?
I would prefer to just keep it all in this thread as then it easier for me to reference back but just wondering.

The big thing is not hijacking someone else's thread. There’s no rules for new threads per question, so feel free to combine all your endeavors with this tractor here. I like to combine mine as well.
thanks that is what I kinda thought but wanted to ask to clarify.

it makes it better for me if I keep it all in one thread that way when I want to look back for a pic of something I know where to go to find it
i also have a 74 140 but when I work on that I'll due I thread on that tractor.

thinking a thread per tractor is best, unless I'm asking unique question

so I wondering if my 69 has some charging problems.

thinking back this summer I had to jump start it 1 time and then after running it didn't want to engage the mower. then it only ran for 10 min and died. thought it was out of gas and I just pushed it back in the shed for the night and put battery charger on it as well. worry about it another day.

now thinking about it.

I had it running and put meter on the battery and was at 12.8 volts
turned on Mower and dropped to 11.8 volts, turned on lights and down to 11.4 volts turn off mower and back to 11.8

just some pics of the gauge on the dash that I took I forgot to take them of the meter when I had that on the battery.

guess I should be glad my gauge on the dash works and gives me feed back.

order of the Pics is Running, Running with Lights, Running with Lights and Mower, Running with Mower.
throttle was wide open the whole time as well.

Got the sleeve hitch back on the 140 today, didnt have time time to work on the charging problem though. But I had put the trickle charger on the battery this week so battery is charged up. needed space in the workshop for a atv project so the 140 got booted back out to the unheated shed. pic of the hitch back on and for my reference it's 12" to top of adapter down and 16" to top of adapter raised.

so I got the 69 out of its winter storage over the weekend and used it for some chores, Pulled a trailer up to the pine tree and trimmed up some branches which are gonna get used in a maple syrup production for this upcoming weekend.

and then I went out and tried to drive around out in the little bit of snow that I had left. just having some fun.

spun out a few time had to back up and try again.

Mopar65pa

I got them both at the same auction, from a collection my uncle had who was selling due to health reason's.

the 69 Ran and paid $450 for that one.

the 74 didn't run and I got that for $250 I had $800 at the auction to spend.

got the weight bracket from a guy on my tractor forum cost me $280 I think I wanted the front receiver, I have several small trailers and when i want to back them into a tight spot that front bracket is gonna be nice to have. I have some small sheds that the trailers just fit into and with a ATV its a line it up 10 times to finally get it lined up to fit into the shed.

:thumb:Not a bad deal. We have posted on the same threads on MTF as you, so that how I know who you are. Just bustin your chops brother.

from a fellow moparer I'd expect nothing less!

i was pumped to get both the 140 at the auction,
heck I went into it saying I'd be happy to get 1,
the 74 non runner sold first and after I got that I did math in my head and was willing to up to 500$ on the running one.
was on my last bid at 450$ and the other guy stopped at 425$
he had some round fenders as well that I would have liked to have tried to get but I they went before the 140 and I was on a budget.
