I am just about ready to haul it to the dump ground!! I have a H1 that i have been working on. It has a Walbro carb on it with electronic ign, I took the Walbro carb off and put a kohler carb on it and i thought that i had it figured out, it would start fine and run good till you started mowing then it just spits and sputters,no carb adjustment seems to help mowing at nearly zero speed fine tuning the carb still runs and misses. i have tried 3 different (new plugs) i then rebuilt the walbro carb and installed it and the same thing happens. My next step is to change the points and condensor only to find out it has electronic ign!! so what am i missing? BTW this act the same whether the air cleaner is on or off the gas tank was cleaned out and is clean, I hate to trash the old girl but i am lost.

Convert over to a coil and points system. I'm guessing this is a 69 on the side of the block you will find holes where the points go there should be plugs in them now. Put on a set of points a condenser and a coil then you should be good to go. Most 69s have been converted already. If you do this keep me in mind Would be interested in buying your solid state parts, trying to get a few non working ones together to make a working one.

I think most of us on this site have at some time been where you are at present. However, it is very much like eating an elephant. Do one bite at a time and soon you will see the light of day again. Clear up one thing at a time. If you suspect a fuel issue, make sure you have good fuel flow entering the carb. Then make sure your carb is clean, all passages and jets clean and adjusted to the book. Good float, good needle and seat, float level adjusted to spec, no undue wear on the throttle shaft. If you suspect an ignition issue, test for spark when you stall or won't start. Don't assume anything. I had a stalling 317 which in the end was a blocked fuel pick up in the tank. Something which I had checked but it came back to bite me again. My apologies if I tell you anything you already know. Good luck. Once solved, you will not want to junk this classic, quality machine.

thank you for the help and concern I bought a JD 180 that had a smokey engine and noisy transaxle for 200.00 i traded it for this machine, so the tractor doesn't owe me a thing!! I have a 214 with a rotary broom on it that starts and runs great, I will get it figured out, It sounds very strong when it's running (no smoke or rod knock)
