Daren did your 100 come with orig.muffler and side engine covers. I've had a sweet running 100 for a while and I've tried finding the muffler and side covers without having to mortgage the farm but i would like to see a picture of a 100 with the correct muffler and side covers in place. Dave

I have been in need of some pictures of a 100 for a while specifically the engine and where wires are supposed to go. I have a 100 with I would say a ground issue. Keeps running after I turn the key off. Not sure where to attach the correct wire to where. Any and all info would be appreciated here. Thanks,
Blake

Blake do you have the original switch in your tractor. The original switch grounded through the case of the switch. If you painted the area where the switch is mounted you may need to make it so the switch touches some bare metal for it to work. You might also have a bad switch or the wrong switch in the tractor. Roger,
Bought a new switch through the parts catalog and it wouldnt even allow the engine to crank. I put the old switch back in and cranked over well. I will check the area around the key switch to see if that makes a difference. I appreciate it.

David, here's some pictures of the side covers installed. Can't help much with the muffler and shield, but you can see a little of it in the "before" photo. I added a rectangular extension to the muffler outlet to keep the exhaust from blowing directly on the front panel.

This is #3 son's worker mower. Not everything is factory correct on this one, but most of it is.

I could use a copy of the wiring diagram for the 1978 John Deere 100 Lawn Tractor also.. It seems when I try to start it. I get smoke around the negative cable.. Taking it loose to check for bare spots.. I found another cable broken off .. looks like it goes into the engine .. need to see if it's just a ground also [email protected]

Also need copy of wiring diagram for my 100. Trouble: Sometimes battery seems dead and will just click when trying to start. Jumping doesn't help. Then after juggling switch, pto, or whatever, might start right off. Also have noticed smoke by neg cable. Disconnect pos cable from battery and checked with ohm meter. It has almost solid ground. Any help appreciated!

Bob the first thing I would do is take the time to take off individually every wire connection. Sand/wire brush/clean each one and put it back on. Do them individually so you don't get one in the wrong place. Usually I put a bit of chassis grease on them before I put them back together. That makes them easier to put back and keeps them from becoming corroded again. That may solve your problem. If not we can go from there. Welcome to WFM. Roger

Where ever that smoking is coming from, is your first culprit. Either a dirty, corroded or a loose connection is preventing amperage to flow and causing heat up and smoke. Most times it is the battery terminals and then the connection to the frame. And internal/external L/W installed between the cable and the frame insure a better bonding. And then follow Roger's advice.
