I have been gone for several months due to the birth of our second child and upcoming cross country move. However, I have a chance to purchase a 322 for very cheap. It appears to have been sitting outside for most of its life, and currently does not run due to "Electrical gremlins." The owner says it has been maintained as far as fluid changes and such.

The hour meter says 2000, but who knows if that is actual or not. The owner also said the engine ran good when it was parked over a year ago. It would start and run, but would die after it was warmed up.

I know this model has a history of electrical issues as I have read through some old threads on here. Was just curious how expensive it could get assuming worst case scenario. Is there an ECU in these things that can go bad? If it is just a harness issue or voltage regulator or something, that would be easy to fix, but am not familiar enough with this model to really know how pricey it could get.

I have not told the Mrs about this yet, but I'm sure it will unleash a nuclear meltdown of Fukushima proportions. I could soften the blow by selling one of my 200 series tractors, but I really hate to do that.

Thank you for any help fellas...as always. Joe

Once you get it running, you'd sell anything to keep it. 322 are the tops I think, but I am bias.

Your best bet is to get the manual to diagnose it. The manual is so much more cheaper than throwing parts at it. Sitting outside shouldn't have too much effect on what's wrong unless it didn't have the engine covers and hood on it,especially in CA.

Joseph, I have a 322 and to date have not had any issues so I can't speak to the cost of repairs. My thoughts would be: you will no doubt get more than $200. worth of parts if it never runs and are you up for a project? What I would be concerned with is the 2000 hours, maintenance, and the fact that it was outside for so long. Some times the rusting of the sheet metal is beyond repair. I guess the overall condition would be my biggest concern.

I thought I was reading my own post for a minute there.
I picked up a 92 322 recently for $200 and it sat outside a while too.
I had an issue with the TDC module on mine and the voltage regulator was not even on the machine.
I got it running easily enough and am now fixing hydro leaks from the seals drying up I assume. It sat for three years outside.
I actually did some horse trading. The guy bought it from the dealer for $200 and he and I did some swapping for me to get it.
Like Jerry I agree they are one of the best but I too am partial as I have a 90 model as well.
I would buy it for $200 in a heartbeat. If it is too far gone part it out and make a chunk of profit from it.

Joseph,

I have a 92 322 that I just can't part with because it is such a fine tractor. I used to have an 88 322 as well, but sold that one when we downsized to just one acre. I sent you some information by e-mail. Like all posters above -- my advice is to JUMP ON THAT DEAL. This site can help you with any issues...

PS ... you and AJ must be living right!! That is a SMOKING deal...

By the way, 2000 hours on the low stress 3 cylinder water cooled Yanmar power plant is not any concern. Here is a similar badly abused turf machine that I put back in service with a very similar Mitsubishi 3-sylinder that had 4500 hours on the clock. It was obvious that it was driven by hired help...but the motor was still in good shape. Sorry for the off color machine.

And, I paid over twice as much for it -- $425.00

Thank you for the reply's guys...but the tractor sold. Figured it would, but was hoping for a day at least to sleep on it...and massage the Mrs.

Probably better that it is gone because it would of required lots of work and money to get it back into good looking/working shape. I obviously have tractor OCD issues, and I don't have the time or money at the moment to take on a project like that.

Hopefully the person who got it is a member here and we will get to see it

Thank you again guys, all the best. J

JDF is probably pulling his 80 cart home right now with it.

322 under a tree for $200? If I heard about something like that in a 100 mile radius, my pickup would be headed out to get it, pronto.
Any talk about it would come after the former owner had the $200 and I had the tractor in my garage.

The best I was able to do for $200 was a derelict not-running LT133 with a mower and a smashed hood, and while the only real repair part needed was a starter relay, getting the petrified fuel out of it took some time and a quart of acetone.
But all I got for that was a running LT133 mower.

Though would have to say, with a cross-country move in the offing, even a good tractor for free might not be such a good deal right now.

Yesterday I scored an 80 Cart for $100 and I couldn't wait to post pics but I had to be careful, someone here in the forum that lives in the area could have rushed and got it before me..lol

I got a 322 from a junk yard once. Only stuff that was left on it that was green was the dash sides, rest was missing.

Got it running and driving, started running worse, found one of the exhaust valve heads in the oil pan.

Parted it out and trippled my money.

Here is my 322 the day I got it.
The second is after I got it running with some rubbing compound on the green.

That is about what the one here looked like AJ...real rough and faded from sitting outside. There was also some bent body work on the front from hitting something. Of course there were a few flat tires too.
