212 motor mounts

My cousin is looking for a new-used lawn cutting machine and these are what he found. All he wants a tractor for is to cut grass. Does anyone have and opinion on these two mowers? The seller is asking $350.00 for the 172 and $1000.00 for the 235. Thanks.

Lee - If the lx has a good upper and lower hood ; Those alone are worth the asking price. If it runs and cuts good that should be a good deal.Of course all bets are off , if not a solid tractor that is ready to work. My $.02 - Dave
Lee,
Unless that GT235 has been trashed and not well taken care of, $1000 is a good price. It's a garden tractor and will have a heavier duty transmission than the LX172, plus it's a hydro where the LX172 is a gear drive. And Dave is right also, it that LX is in decent shape that's a good price on that one. Myself, if both were in similar shape, I would take the GT any way over the LX though. The GT is a few years newer and will be a stronger, more durable tractor.
Thanks guys. I will let my cousin know what you said. Lee.
i have a 212 and at low idle it sounds like a rod knock. after looking into it i found that the bracket in front of the pto was hitting the frame. the motor mounts are flat to the brackets on the motor. can i shim them or just replace them
