My 76 300 has hydro creep in forward/reverse. When I bought it earlier in the spring I changed fluid to Low Vis and changed filter. While I wait for my new governor spring, I thought I'd take a look at the linkage after doing some research.

The first thing I noticed is that there is alot of travel in the control lever before the shock absorber ever moves. It looks like the round hole at the end of the tube has been elongated by spring pin over time due to the back/forth movement of the lever:

It appears I can drill out a larger hole and replace the spring pin with a larger one. Anyone else done this fix before?

Bob,
the pin fits tight in the outside holes of the bracket. The hole inside the tube (15) is stretched out. I should be able to remove the spring pin, drill a larger hole through the bracket insert a larger pin.
