Working on the 300 the other day and noticed that I can push it without the hydro disengaged. Upon startup I lifted the deck and the tractor started to creep in reverse. I let off the lever and it stopped so I tried it again and it did the same thing. As I try to move it with the hydro, I have to move the lever about 3/4 inch before I get any reaction from the tractor. This happens in fwd and rev.. Now when I return the lever to neutral I have creep until the oil is warm. Do I need to rebuild my control valve, or is this something else? The creep being related to the outer hyd lever tells me this is more than a simple adjustment. Please let me know what you think. BTW when warm trans operates normally and I still run ATF in the transaxle.

Do you have a tech manual for it Mike? Have you reset the hydrostatic lever to neutral? Kind of sounds like the drive isn't in the neutral position and when you pressurize the system by activating hydraulics, it is putting more pressure in the drive. I'm just guessing here Mike. I'm sure some of these guys can find a solution for you.

Kenny D. is correct with having your linkage set correctly. With a 15U style system there aren't any electrical or manual servos to help control neutral and hold it in position. Your linkage is hooked directly via the trunion arm to the swash plate. ANY movement even so slight starts to activate the forward or reverse movement. The "extra" pressure being released into the system by activating the hydraulics will also contribute to the forward or revers movement if your linkage isn't set to true neutral which is very hard to do with worn linkage.

I just bought a 332 with the same problem. After getting it home I removed the tin work to get at the linkage Kenny and Marlin are talking about and found the square threaded guide and jam nut missing from the special bolt that goes through the forward eye of the linkage. I ordered the guide and a new bolt About $40CAN and its as good as new. Hope yours is as easy a fix.

After writing previous post I looked at the control linkage exploded view of a 300 on the JD parts web site. A 300 is way different than a 332 so don't try to figure out what parts I replaced. Yours looks different but may have worn or missing parts as did mine.

If you need to send a large file, you could upload it to a free Google Docs account first. Then you can email a link for someone else to download at their leisure. That way they don't jam up their mail server. This works well if you're not afraid of Google's quest for world domination that is. Enjoy.
