I'm new to the forum and have enjoyed reading and learning from many posts on many different topics. I have learned a bunch already. Thanks.

I bought a 314 last year and am finally getting it ready to mow. The deck was rusted beyond repair and all the various linkages were rusted to the point that they required disassembly, cleaning and lubrication.

I may have reassembled some of the linkages incorrectly. The tractor goes forward but applying the brakes does not move the hydro lever to the neutral position. It's not safe as is.

Does the 314 have a link interconnecting the brakes and the hydro? What does the correctly assembled linkage look like and how do I adjust it?

I do not have any manuals or diagrams for my 314. Is a manual on CD available?

Thanks,
Ges

I don't own a 314 but a 317 rather. If you push on the brakes it SHOULD return the lever to neutral.

Look inside your dash tower on the right hand side, there should be two rods, one is the parking brake the other is the return to neutral rod. If this has been taken apart chances are you forgot to hook the longer rod back up to the mechanism that provides this feature. There is a bracket bolted to the dash tower which rides along the hydro lever and will enable the lever to return. This will only work if the brake pedals are locked together otherwise the tractor will go to either side depending on which pedal is engaged.

Every closed frame 300 series I have had or been around will not return to neutral when the brakes are pressed on, but the open frame tractors will return the lever to neutral when the brakes are pressed on.

It sounds like I'll have to get used to using the hydro lever a lot more. I'm hoping that the 314 will mow a lot better than my Cub Cadet 1250 (a workhorse but does not cut grass cleanly).

Thanks for your input,

Ges,

I have a 112, a 212, an LX188 , a 314 and another manufacturers tractor (will remain nameless) that I can mow with and I find myself going for the 314 most of the time. They all have about the same decks...I like the the hydro and the ease of control on the 314 as well. The 314 also has a tighter turning radius than the 112 or 212 units.

Yup ! Does that mean you need to find an original rockshaft?
