Hi all, I rebuilt my first onan this winter, a B43E in my 316. everything went ok except it races. I move the throttle an 1/8 inch and it revs right up. It seemed to me the governor was not working properly so I did some reading here and the same thing kept coming up, a ball bearing under the governor shaft. So I pulled the engine and removed all the necessary parts and found the bearing was nowhere to be found nor do I recall a bearing in the box of parts, this was a basket case So I thought I had solved the problem, a new gasket a 3/16 dia. ball bearing and a few more man hours later it still does the same thing. now it does not surge like so many others I have been reading about. I need three hands to drive it one for the throttle, one for the Hydro and one to steer.
Any thoughts?

Sounds like the dreaded governor flyball retainer issue that Onans sometimes develop. The plastic retainer is spinning and not allowing the governor to work correctly. Or, maybe you failed to properly engage the pin on the shaft to the governor when installing the front cover??

OK, I cam home from work and pulled the B43 apart once again. I have the cup off and the flyballs out and everything looks fine. Metal spacer is intact and the steel balls are round and smooth. What am I looking for. The cup and hub have some play in them but the hub to the pin is a nice slip fit.
Everything looks fine to me.

Robert, Thats because I have it tilted back, it is centered I new I was going to get called out on that. What else could be causing this machine to race the way it is. Carburetor?

Thanks, Mark
