I replaced all the fuel lines on my JD316 earlier this year. The tractor runs out of gas with 1/4 tank still showing on the gauge. I used about 4-5" of fuel line inside the tank and installed a new pickup screen and check valve. I pulled the tank and pickup hose today and the hose has a 90deg bend in it. There are no kinks,it's a smooth gradual bend. I thought the hose would be laying on the bottom of the tank, but it can't be since the tractor runs out of fuel at 1/4 tank. JD parts does not specify a length, it just says cut from a 10' piece of M62370. Does anyone know how long the hose in the tank should be?

Hello Dan
I replaced the fuel Lines on my Son in Law's 1991 John Deere 316 as well as my 1984 John Deere 318. I matched the existing fuel Line pick up hose to the Original and added a couple more inches of hose to Insure that it was laying on the bottom of the gas tank. I did Not Place the small gas Pick up screen on either machine as I Now have Two see through gas filter's Mounted on my fir wall that filters the gas coming from the gas tank as well as one in the line that goes directly to the Carburetor. This way I can see when they get dirty and replace them if needed without Taking off the fender pan to service the Internal Gas Tank gas filter which is a PITA. The Filler neck Fuel Gauges are not accurate at all mine has to be Full of gas all the way up to the top of the Gas Tank tube to show a full Tank of fuel. I hope this help's, Kurt

Dan:
The only place in JD parts I have ever seen that hose length called out on the drawing is the breakdown for the 322 tractor and it is called out as being 4" long. I do realize the 322 had an "in-tank" fuel sensor too, but the hose shown would be the location of the reserve pickup and it makes sense to me that the reserve lets the tractor run longer than does the main position on the fuel valve so it surely must be the one to set the deepest into the tank.............Hope this helps..........Gary

I had to replace mine few weeks ago because the old one was disintegrated.
I put a standard hose for gas but the outside diameter is too big to use the clips.
Also this hose is too rigid and don't stay at the bottom.
In the tank of my gas trimmer they use a small clear/pink hose.
This kind of hose but 1/4" was used in old Ski-Doo and still available at my local dealer at 10 minute from here.
My JD dealer is very far away.
Is it a good alternative?

k.b. said I suggest Tygon line for inside the tank, you can get it at napa, its ethanol resistant.
Ditto, its available at NAPA, the metal screen thing needs to be on the line that's what keeps it at the bottom of the tank.
Andre if that clear hose is fuel proof don't know why it would not work. That black fuel line is fuel resistant on the ID but I do not think the OD is.

Hello Dan
Use Tygon Line if you have some to use but I did Not use the Tygon fuel line it is Very Pricey. I run nothing But Pure Gasoline and Lucas Ethanol safe Guard in my 318 it has no issues. Original gas hose lasted 31 Years on my 1983 John Deere 318 so why wouldn't the new rubber gas line go that Long again? Regards, Kurt

Kurt I think I paid like $3 a foot for the Tygon line at NAPA. The line I got was approved for 100% immersion in gasoline and for Ethanol. It was only used Inside the tank. Not Pricey if divided by 10 years
. My guess its much cheaper than the Lucas stuff in every tank of gas. I use StaBil if its going to set for over 2 weeks and never Ethanol in any small engine or tractor.
