new battery lost its charge again. The tractor is putting out 11.5 charge when running, so after a short while it looses its charge I was wondering if that output is to low anyone know what the stator should be putting out on the 16 hp onan ?

you should be getting 13 volts at least

so you will need to figure out if its the stator or the regulator. Some times it can be a wire that's corroded too.

I expect to see 13.2 - 13.4. Disconnect the wires to the stator from the rectifier/regulator and measure the AC voltage with the engine running 3/4 throttle. If you see 30ish, the stator is fine. My guess would be a bad ground first, poor connection through the ignition switch or wire second, and regulator last.

Lou,

The test procedures in the TM1590 will help isolate your issues on the Onan -- slight differences exist between the B series and the P series engines.

Another thing to check is for a grounded stator winding, as this will indicate an OK AC voltage but still not be able to power the charging system correctly. While not a common condition, if this is occurring, even a new regulator will not solve the issue.

the complete stator tests are here:

Hope this helps -- good luck and let us know what you find.
