I need to replace the drive shaft in my 316G hydrostatic unit.

I have the rearend out of the unit and can start with the replacement.

The only problem is that i dont have any manuals, explaining this process.

If there is anyone that can help this backyard mechanic i would appreciate it.

Thanks

Patrick,

Welcome to the WFM Forum! I will send you some 'getting started' information via e-mail. You don't need to remove the hydro unit to replace the drive shaft normally, just take the belly screen off to gain access...see section 50-25-1 of the TM1590 manual.

If instead of the drive shaft, you mean the input shaft of the hydro itself -- that is covered in my e-mail.

Patrick, I'm guessing that your 316G is a Kohler powered 316, which is quite different than the Onan 316 that I think Chuck is referring to. If so, and if you mean the input shaft of the hydro, you can search for info on WFM. It would be the same hydro unit as later 140s up to the 317.

You are right Cliff...the C316G model number indicates the Kohler powered closed frame tractor, while the designation M00316X would indicate the Onan powered open frame tractor that I was describing above.

Sorry for the detour in getting your question answered Patrick...
