I have a 316K with the K341 Kohler engine. It recently started surging pretty badly off & on. It seems like the governor is hunting. It had been sitting a few weeks before this started. We cleaned the carb up & shot some cleaner thru it & then my brother adjusted the carb with the air cleaner off & it seemed to go away, but as soon as we put it all back together it started doing it again. After sitting another week I finally got back to it & now not only is it surging, but it also only runs with the choke most of the way out. I'm leaning towards taking the carb bowl off & making sure there isn't any junk floating around plugging things & changing the fuel filter as the next move. Does that sound reasonable? Any suggestions? Thanks!

you have crud in the fuel most likely and its clogging the slow/idle jet

I usually drain the fuel, replace the lines and filter and clean out the bowl

then run 2 oz of two stroke oil in the fule so it wont happen anymore as the new fuel reacts with aluminum once it dries up. my dirt bikes and chain saw never do this in past 20 years

Thanks. Crud in the fuel is what I was thinking. I'll try that. I usually mix an ounce or two of Marvel Mystery Oil & Seafoam in my gas can when I fill it up & haven't had problems like this at home since I started that, but this tractor is at my mother-in-law's place & I'm sure my step kids & wife haven't done that when they get gas.
