This is my first post. I recently repowered my 317 with the 18 horse vangaurd. love the engine but was not satisfied with the cut quality of the old 47" deck. i picked up a 48c convertable off of a 345 tractor and plan on retrofitting to the 317. Has anyone out there done this or seen it done? looks like a fair amount of work but should be worth it. any info is greatly appreciated!

It probably would have been easier if you had found one of the 48" Replacement Decks that are sold for 140s, 318s, etc. With your deck, you will probably have to move the drive pulley arrangements around, as well as getting useable lift arms.
Well that is a bit of excellent advice! I did get the 48c to work under the 317 however. Had to make new lift arms, widen the gauge wheel brackets, weld up a double pulley for the drive, and reroute the drive belt. What a difference from the old deck! Not sure I would recommend this project but still glad its done. If anyone does have questions i am glad to answer them.
