Thanks chuckv, l appreciate the info. All Deere-made conversion kits for the 317 to Onan used the P218 engine...
Thanks for the reply and good info. The reason I ask about the B43 conversion is that I picked up a complete running low hour engine that I couldn’t pass up for cheap. I have a 317 that the previous owner installed a 16hp BF motor out of a Sears Suburban into so some of my works already been done. I wasn’t sure if my drive shaft adapter would work but I tried it last night and it does fit but I do agree that the drive shaft most likely will need to be shortened by looking at the flywheel difference. I’ll know more once I set it in place. Hopefully the head pipes match the muffler I already have or it’ll be time to break out the welder and get to work. The driveshaft adapter itself would fit either the B or P series flywheels, but as Chuck noted, the conversion kit is made for the P218 engine. The 317 driveshaft would have to be shortened to use a B43 engine. The flywheel housing on the B engine is different as well, I'm not sure if that would be a problem or not.
