I don't really know, Matt. I just figured they helped keep the lower rear of the covers from rattling? I hope someone can give you a better answer. I don't use them except in the winter.
It is to help stop the re-circulation of hot engine air into the engine. very important! Deere improved the firewall and insulation design on the 316/318/420 series.
My side panels have no remains of the original foam. Does anyone have the dimensions of the foam block and a picture of where it goes on the side panels?
