I have searched other threads and have greased the axle and kingpin towers. but the steering is still awefully stiff. any ideas there is some slop in there as well. Thanks much
I would jack up the front and disconnect the steering arm to narrow down where the arthritis is located. Most probably in the steering gear, caused by a collapsed ball race? JM2c
Did you pot grease in the steering box? You will probably have to pull the battery tray and turn the steering just so to get access to the grease fitting
Paul hope that helps, the owner's manual claims that is is not necessary to grease the steering box but I don't think the JD design studio expected the machine to last 30 years, mine took about 8 pumps when I first got the tractor. I also run 15 psi in the front tires, makes it easier to steer and level the deck, 6 psi in the rear tires
