Ran into another problem on my 317 Vanguard repower.
I mocked the engine up on the frame. When I position the Vanguard where the pto needs to be, the stub shaft does not even touch the driveshaft. Do I need a custom driveshaft or a different one from Deere? I was under the impression the stock driveshaft would fit.

I had the same problem and ended up cutting the driveshaft in two and welding in a section of solid shaft that fit inside the hollow shaft.

I also ended up short with the stock driveshaft. I cut the stock hollow tube out of the yokes and replaced it with some solid 1" shaft stock.

In all my repowers with the Vanguard I have done as John suggests but I use a 1" solid cold roll steel as apposed to hot roll because of it's dimensional accuracy. I figure there is less chance of vibration since I have no way to balance the shaft.

I have a local driveshaft shop I have worked with in the past. Maybe I'll take it to them and see if they can lengthen it.
