Personally I would look for an older 300, 16hp and all your attachments will fit it. That is assuming that your rear attachments are for a closed frame. If I remember correctly the 317 is an open frame. The KT 17 engines are known to loose oil pressure and burn up bearings on slopes.

Actually, the 317 is a closed frame tractor, but so is a 300, 312,124 or 316 single cylinder Kohler tractor. Maybe you are thinking of an early 316 Onan which had a 16 hp Onan initially and later an 18 hp Onan just like the 318 -- all these are open frame, like the 322 and 332.

The Series I Kohler twin as used in the 317 was known to have lubrication limitations -- but many are still quite servicable if they were maintained properly and had their oil levels kept up to the mark...

I couldn't remember for sure. I was thinking that it was the predecessor to the 318 with the same frame. I did know that the 316 K was a closed frame and the 316 O was open. Thanks for clearing that up.
