Nothing tricky about the bolt pattern. It's four equally-spaced holes.

When I reinstall a driveshaft, I position the engine and the shaft so that one hole is near the top, then insert a punch to hold the shaft in position. You can then thread in a bolt in another of the holes, which will be lined up.

Hello Tim
I was able to use my air 3/8" Ratchet to tighten the bolt's on the drive shaft using a shallow socket on it. I turned it with a big Long screwdriver rotating it to place and Tighten the bolt's as I placed them all. I hope this help's, Kurt

Tim: I re-powered my 86 318. There were issues with the drive shaft during the process; different lengths for different model runs. I do not know if this would affect the bolt pattern as well. Mine is 1 7/8" O.C. holes are 5/16".
