I bought a 318 2 weeks ago. I have so far replaced the gear ring on the fly wheel. As long as I was doing that I also replaced the ignition module and trigger ring. After replacing engine back on tractor I was not getting spark so replaced plugs, coil and condenser. It started then and I cut grass, about 2 1/2 acre. After stopping I tried to restart, the engine would crank but not start. After cooling about 30 min. it would start. So do you think I have a carb problem or electrical?

Guessing Carb. Something about the heat......

Yoo-Hoo Chuck:
If I'm remembering correctly you posted regarding how Onan engines may not restart very easily after hot & suggested to let 'em cool a while with the hood open. Since the electronic ignition components have been replaced.....should try that? Seems to help my P218G powered 318 (re)start when hot. Bobo

Bo,

You are correct -- a hot engine can expand the liquid gas in the float bowl and flood the engine, making it hard to start for a few minutes.

Dan, try lifting the hood when you stop for a short time after running long enough to heat it all up so much. You might also try lowering the float level -- particularly if it is above the manual spec. To low a float level will make it miss at WOT under load so it is a fine balance...
