Hi John - You can use either Type F or JD Low Viscosity HyGard. Deere now recommends the Low Viscosity HyGard. It is a better product than the Type F, and Type F is not as readily available in all areas. Simply drain the fluid, pull the filter. When installing a new filter, fill it about half way with fresh fluid before installing it. That helps to minimize any air locks. But before you start putting any new fluid in, you may want to check the condition of the tubing that connects to the sight glass. If it is questionable, I'd recommend installing new tubing. It would be a shame to put new fluid in, only to have the tubing for the sight glass split and cause a leak. After you've put new fluid in, run the tractor and use the hydro levers to help burp the system. It takes between 5 and 6 quarts of fluid. Check fluid level at the mid point of the sight glass at the rear of the tractor. - Dave
