OLDER MODEL 318. THE INSULATION HAS FALLEN APART. DOES IT SERVE AN IMPORTANT PURPOSE. DO I NEED TO REPLACE IT?

Dale, yes it does serve a purpose and should be replaced. Member John Lang sells it on this site and it is a great product.
