Bought a set of Meg-Mo blades over the winter for my 318 with 50" deck and I thought I would share my experiences.

First off the blades when installed are roughly .200 to .250 lower than the stock JD blades. This places the blades even with the bottom of the deck. My first experience using them was disappointing. Very poor cut with zero lift. It was spring with lots of dandelions and it looked as if I had missed 50% of them. My fix was to buy the speed up pulley and to cut the blade mounting face portion of the spindle down in a lathe roughly .200 placing the blades back inside the deck. This has increased the quality of cut significantly although the medium lift JD blades still cut superior. The Meg-Mos do however perform a fantastic job of mulching. No windrows. They are very quiet, and it sounds as if my Onan is screaming when cutting. They also seem to require less horsepower to cut as well. My thoughts are in the future to fabricate spacers (.125") to place between deck and spindle housing to further raise blades inside deck.

Overall I am satisfied with them but for $$$ they cost I would have expected to not have needed to perform other modifications to make them work decently. They are not a bolt-on and go for a 50" deck.

I have them on my 48" deck with my 317. I hadn't noticed that they were lower. Question, couldn't you change the mounting position of the individual blades on the mounting hub provided? In other words, mount the swinging blades on top of the hub instead of under.
I have noticed a few differences in mowing tall grass, seems to bend it over and not cut real good. In medium height and thick grass they do great, very fine cuttings and no clumping.

I will have to compare it to my other deck with standard blades.

Jonah did you take any pictures of the blades installed on your deck before you mounted it under the tractor? How about a picture taken from the discharge side do the deck? I've heard about these blades and read about them, but I have never heard any real world experience either them, I'll be following this one.

Yes, I thought pretty hard about flipping the blades on the center disc but that would have placed the center disc .250 below the cut height creating a scalping issue. I wasn't to upload a picture small enough. The picture on the Meg-Mo home page is an accurate representation. I noticed on the website that it appears prices have gone up too.

I have user Meg-Mo blades for more than 15 yr. You have all kind of lift. You will take tops off your dandelions, you will do same in tall grass. This is cause by the front of deck bending them over. Then they ride on the disc and the blades do not cut them. You could drive slower, this will help. In the fall you find them very good for mulching leaves.

We feel these blades are garbage. I called back to the company a couple of times. Everything I was told to do I was doing. Terrible cutting. Couldn't even get through mowing a cemetery once. Had to put our old standard blades back on that did a way better job. The Meg Mo blades were way more gouged up after a few hours than our old blades. Hardened steel? Really? There is a reason their literature days "all sales final". That should have been enough for us to be more cautious. We bought for 2 mowers. Both did a terrible job. Don't waste your money!
