Okay so I got a 318 about 2 months ago I finished restoring the body now I am gonna try and get the engine going good.I want to know what I can do to it without spending to much money, maybe couple hundred bucks. Also if i get new rings is it a must to hone the cylinder?

Yes you always at least need to break the glaze in the cylinders. My dad used to do it by hand with emery cloth, but a little run up and down with a hone is the correct way. Need to have a cross hatch effect.
Boomer on here says for $200-$250 you can do the minimum rings and valves, with new gaskets of course. I will let him supply the details.

A tune-up to an Onan runs up a $100 parts bill so I can't imagine a $200-$250 over-haul fixing much, so I'd like Boomer to elaborate too. Last set of points & condenser I got this spring for my B48G was $62. No plugs or plug wires, not even an oil & filter change!

Dennis,
You should consider a Kirk points saver. Around $30. Money well spent. It eliminates the condenser all together and helps the tractor run much better. Look it up and you'll get all the information you need

bill and club.
joshua's user name is 83deere.
83 B43G 318 did not use valve stem seals.
my post states( 2 )STD ring sets 48.00.
guides are driven out, and pulled in.
they are too size, no reaming necessary.
the exh guides may be bad.
that is a wait and see deal.
the B43G used the same guide for int and exh.
they made the exh valve stem .0015 smaller.
when i scrap those engines i usually always
save the intake guides.
they work very well for the exh., because with
no seal they were well lubed.
a used guide would be 9.00 VS 38.00 new.
thank you. boomer
