I have an 87 318 that was rebuilt about 8 years ago with a 420 cam and carb. It has been running great until now. It all the sudden starts real sluggish, gaining RPMs slowly. It takes a few minutes for it to get up to normal RPMs but then I engage the deck and it is sluggish still. After a few more minutes I can engage the deck and start cutting grass. I also notice that it is spitting fuel out the carburetor. I took the carb apart and cleaned it but it is still doing the same thing.

I have been using 93 octane and the ethanol additive. Any suggestions?

Thanks!!!!!!! Mike

i would start with a compression and leak
down test.
depending on those findings, it is probably
time for a de/carbon job /valve adjustment.
the yahoo onan engine site had the same thing last week. ( spitting fuel is a sign of a leaking
intake valve)
de/carbon and valve adjustment took care of it.
thank you. boomer ( the used onan engine parts guy)
