Hello all,
Just wanted to say thanks a lot for such a great site. My 318 was surging terribly. I used the search option for suggestions and found the idle jet plugged. Keep up the great work.

Hi Kurt,
I remember reading about the trouble you had with your 318. It took a little searching but I did find where you discussed several possibilities of what might be wrong. I started with the idle jet and got lucky. That fixed it.
Thanks Kurt,
Dwayne

Hello Dwayne
Your Very welcome, I am glad your engine surging issue has diminished. In my struggle to isolate the surging issue in my 1983 John Deere 318 I Read No Where were anyone spoke of the straight through design of the Carburetor idle jet. Not even the Onan service manual made any mention of that. What led me to see what was wrong was the chamfer on the bottom of that Idle jet tube made me think that it was Intended to meter the fuel. I Poked a Gas Torch tip cleaner down through the tube and Cleared it of an Old piece of Rotted Gas line that had gotten lodged inside of the tube. All is well now, so I hope that my Three Day tedious discovery is of help to other's having the very same engine surging issues. Regards, Kurt
