My boys and I took our 318's and my 322 to drive in a local parade today. It was about an hour of driving, warm temps but not really too hot. It ran about 1/3 throttle the entire time. Right at the very end, it just died. I checked and there is plenty of fuel in the tank. It turns over fine, and almost starts and then nothing. I've got the Onan trouble shooting down pretty good, but have only had the Yanmar gas for a few months. Its been well cared for and ran perfectly up until that time.

Would the heat have caused a vapor lock? I did try taking the gas cap off.

I just went out and tried it and not any better. But I have a big clue. I noticed I didn't hear the fuel pump priming up like I normally do. So I hit the air plenum with a shot of carb cleaner and it fired up and then died. I won't have time until Sunday to look at it, but I assume troubleshooting power to the pump and the pump itself.

Any advice?

Sorry to hear about your 322 troubles. Try this to narrow it down. Remove the fuel line from the carb and put the end of the hose into a container (I used my wife's measuring cup). Watching a clock, measure how much fuel flows into the container in 30 seconds. Deere says minimum is 200ml, mine did more. If less than this, you have a bad pump or a clog from the tank to the pump. Dirty tanks are a common issue, but easy to fix.

If you have the minimum 200ml, then the fuel is not flowing through the carb correctly. I just took my carb apart and cleaned it thoroughly. Add some Seafoam to the fuel, it will help clean up things.

I finally had time to replace the fuel pump on the 322. I bought the low flow Facet pump from NAPA and it worked perfectly! In fact, I had considered going with a much cheaper Mr Gasket pump, but I researched and it had terrible reviews due to reliability. The irony was that the bad pump was in fact a replacement Mr Gasket pump. Glad I went the Facet route. All in all, a very easy fix.
