Hello. I have a 1986 330 that once it gets hot while mowing the engine seems to lose power. It died on me the other day. Once it cools however it is fine until it gets hot again. Any ideas why it would be doing this?
it does blow out what appears to be white smoke when it bogs down. please help because i do not want to have to put a new engine as i am only 21 and have a car to pay for. thanks in advance
Not sure what you mean when "until it gets hot". Does the over temp warning light come on or something else?
Anyway, the first things I would do would be to check to see if the radiator cooling fins are clear. Check the coolant level to ensure it's at proper level. Also, you should remove the belly screen and clean it off.
Check your fuel filter. Check your fuel pump for flow.Check your fuel cap.Make sure the air vent is clear.Check for pinch fuel lines. Make sure the fuel sock inside the tank is not clogged. Make sure you have not run water through the fuel system that would do it too.
Disregard everything that I just said. I didn't read carefully. What you've described sounds like you've blown a head gasket between a water jacket and one of the cylinders. Do not run the tractor very much until you fix it or you can do some serious damage to the head and the block. Test my theory what you need to do is make sure you have plenty of coolant in it. Run it with the radiator cap partially on. With a cap partially on it will not build pressure inside your cooling system thus not forcing coolant into one of the combustion chambers and burning and that's not white smoke that's just hot coolant and that's blowing out the exhaust in vapor form.
