The splines on the output side of the pump on my 330 are worn off as well as the pto shaft. I have found complete pumps on ebay as well as a listing for the pump output shaft itself. My question is what would you guys who have gone done this repair road already do again? Tractor has about 1200 hrs. I should be able to do all the work myself. Should I put new seals in the transaxle while things are apart? Are there issues with the hydrostat pump wearing out to look for? Where do I source repair/seal kits other than JD dealer? Im in Canada so shipping can add up.

I would reseal while there so it is good for another 1200 hours. Hate to say it but others have tried non-JD seals and they didn't work since they were just off enough in size from some that I have read. But you can try. Not too hard of a job. 4-6 hours. just keep things clean.

Looks like there is not much regarding the seals now that I have the transmission out. I can replace the axle seals by getting the number off the seal and going to a bearing supply store and I cant see the paper gasket between the case halves needing replacement. That means I just need the seal between the pump and transmission that I would get from JD. If I get a used pump with undamaged splines on the input and output I should be set to get this fixed.

I personally would still pull things apart. Now is the time to find a bad needle bearing (I have found) in the differential. Not 100% needed but I like the piece of mind since the seals aren't terribly expensive vs my time to be ripping them apart again. I made the mistake and didn't replace seals on my non-leaking pump when I swapped to a 430 rearend. Now two years later I get to take the rearend out to pull the pump off and replace seals that are now leaking. And-it has the loader on it which attached to the rear axles. So it now just became a much larger job.

I appreciate what you are saying Travis. These days I am thinking more along the lines of "if it aint broke dont mess with it". I would think the only way to identify a bad needle bearing is to take it apart so I will give it some thought, if JD can get me the case gasket in a week or two I may go ahead. Is JD the best source or is it worth trying to find a local Peerless/Tecumseh shop to order from?

If you can source a cheaper way to get the seals do it. But I haven't seen any that have had luck doing that. The bad needle bearing in the diff I found was worn through the side in one spot.

The needle bearings in the pump that were bad-wear into the shaft. And you wouldn't know they were bad as everything was working fine.

I checked at one of the bearing suppliers I normally go to and didnt have stock so I will see what jd can do for me. Paying a little extra for their $20 seal is ok compared to what jd wants for the pump shaft that I need to find.
