Guys, I'm a new owner of a 330 JD. Runs great but I have a sloppy steering issue. When I turn the wheel the area where the steering linkage comes through the frame moves up and down quite a bit. Like I can turn the wheel half a turn before the wheels turn. This is my first non power steering JD.

Jay,

Section 60 of the TM1591 covers some info on the manual steering components of the 330 -- I think it is very similar, perhaps identical, to the 316 Onan steering shown in the TM1950 as well...

Jay, There are 18 pages dealing with the gearbox used in the 316 ONAN HERE.

TM1590 (17MAY95) 60-05-1 THRU 60-05-18

LOOKS pretty involved and would be very difficult for me! Glad I've never had a problem with any of my 316s steering.

Hi Jay, my 316 had a problem with the Steering box. I took it out to rebuild it when doing the complete restoration of the tractor. You pretty much have to take out the battery, the side screen, the belly screen and have small hands to do the job. The steering box is attached to the frame with three bolts. My advice is to follow the rebuild instructions in the service manual while you have the steering box out. As long as you follow everything step by step, you will be okay. We are ready to help if you have more questions.
