I pulled the engine out of my 332 to paint it and found a pinched in two front hydraulic line.

This is the RIGHT INSIDE line.

Does anyone have a line like this or measurements for the guy in Tallahassee to make one? I sent him the photo as he requested but he started back peddling and wanted me to mail my broken line to him. I would rather send him the measurements or have someone make one locally.

I am not into paying $15 to ship a broken hyd. line.

Can anyone help or offer a suggestion?

I don't know the measurements but you can buy some break line and a flaring tool to make one yourself. Or bring to a shop that can flare/bend that size tubing.

If you know someone local that part out lawn tractors, You get one from a 300 series, it should fit.

I have a cherry 318 that I am parting out right next to my 332 project but the lines are different.

A Picture with measurements would be awesome. I think I can have them made locally.

Mine is broken in 2 and the PO smashed the pump end together to stop it from leaking I guess. It is not a very good pattern.

I had one made at a local shop. They charged $48 plus tax which is what the guy in Tallahassee charges but no shipping and no waiting. They would have done it while I waited if I didn't have to run home and phone in a measurement.

I everything hooked back up in the rear and the lines going forward but I am having a little trouble getting the outlets screwed back on and pushed back far enough to get a snap ring back on.

I know it just needs to be massaged because I am having the same issue with the adjacent line which was on and is factory made.

It would be nice to find a fitting to put on between the flanged line and the outlet so it could be adjusted in and out 1/2 inch or so to make it perfect.

When you guys put these back together, does it make it easier doing it in a certain order?

I mean, should I snap ring the outlets into place FIRST and then try to align the hyd. line with it?

Or would it be better to stick the outlet through the hole unsecured, screw it to the line, then try to push the outlet in enough to get the snap ring on.

In another recent post, a member asked advice on whether to buy a particular 318 for sale near him.

I just read all the replies because I was interested and someone suggested that if the tractor had they few hours, the hydro fluid may still be red.

What does this mean? Did Deere ship them with red fluid?

I ask this on this thread because when I was making the repair to the front 332 lines on my recent purchase, the fluid in the lines going to the front was red.

Now, I drained the fluid from the reared and it was clean and golden but what came out of those front lines was defiantly red.

Does that mean it was original fluid and the front outlets have never been used?

It is a 1988 332 with 670 hours.

Thanks

Alan,

As stated in the other thread the early model years shipped with ATF (red in color) in the hydraulic system. Here is an illustration from the 1988 user manual for the 316, 318 and 420 Onan powered tractors.

In the later TM1590 that I have dated May of 1995 it shows this recommendadtion:

If your tractor never had a front attachment installed it is quite possible that the ATF it was shipped with was never purged from the lines during any subsequent fluid changes.

Chuck

PS: Congratulations on finding such a low hour 332 -- it should last you a lifetime.

Thanks Chuck,

I bought it for $1800 about 2 weeks ago and it fired right up with no smoke and purrs. I wouldn't say it was abused but not taken care of physically in my mind.

Rust under the seat from likely sitting out for days at a time. The belly screen had 4-5 inches of crud and NUT SHELLS.

I have some before pictures and some in progress photos. I'm going to start a thread on here this weekend.

I'm spending some money on it and putting as much time as I can on it so with any luck, it will be good as new in a month or less.
