I use regular hygard in my 332 for three reasons. First, I don't use it in cold weather, so the potential cavitation issues Deere speaks of in its TSB recommending low vis is much less likely. 2nd, the 332 does not have an oil cooler like the 318, so the trans sees higher temps and I like the protection of thicker oil at those higher temps. I think this is especially important when plowing (dirt) in warm weather as the trans gets downright hot. And 3rd, Deere's technical manual recommends regular hygard when ambient temps exceed about 80 to 90 degrees (I don't remember exactly which). Those are my reasons and I'm sticking with them.

I don't like to over think things. My manual recommends Low Vis however you make some very good points to ponder Bill.
I live in the south and plow dirt a few times a year.More reading to do.

I agree with bill and Doug on this one guys. It just makes sense to use thicker oils in higher temperatures, and with me being in S. Carolina it gets pretty warm. And I would also go a little thicker with one that has a lot of hours on it as parts wear down

Thanks for the education,Tom! I was thinking viscosity, not "viscosity index".I actually had to look it up to see what it meant.

Now that I am more enlightened, I see that the low vis hygard is a better "all around oil" but I still think that it's too thin for 332/322s in the hot summer months. That's just my two cents. What I have actually been running in all my hydraulic systems for @ 8 years is "Premium Tractor hydraulic Fluid" from Costco.

I think if I were living in a southern state, I'd use the regular viscosity Hy-Guard.

The Sauer-Danfoss web site lists a whole bunch of hydraulic oils for use with the type 15 transmission, and 318's, at least, were originally filled with Type F, the spec for Ford hydrodynamics.

While we're at it, I have a quick question. I just changed the transmission fluid on my 322 with hy-gard low-vis. At the bottom of the container there appeared to be what looked like globs of clear gelatin. The gallon was purchased the same day. Anyone else seen this? Should I be concerned?? Thanks, Dave
