Does anybody have any experience with the guy on ebay who is selling new 400 drive shafts for $275 or will rebuild your existing shaft for $165? Looks like a good deal. He is located in Lexington Illinois.

Terry, as I understand it, the original prohibition on posting of ebay ads was to limit their exposure and hopefully keep the price as low as possible. These two are services, where price is fixed. Further, I wasn't really posting to bring attention to the ads, but to see if anyone had experience with the quality of the service. Posting the links would assist in the latter. Do as you must.

Bill,'
I'm not fond of the no ebay and CL rule, but it's a rule. One thing I have been noticing here lately is that if I allow one CL or ebay link, regardless of the content or how relevant, others follow suit and post links also. So, to be consistent, I decided to removed all ebay and CL links, if I see it. Without the consistency, then it will lead to confusion and members thinking we're playing favorites. Again, I don't like the rule, but......

Terry, this post is not to argue just so you know. I appreciate your work to keep this site running smooth, your one of the few left doing it, without mods it would be a free for all for anything.

On this post.

Rule is only for "links"

So if you can post some key search words or whatever gets people to easily find it, thats within the rules I guess.

Ultimate goal of this website is to help out the members, if someone finds something like this, it should be discussed and feedback given.

I also dont get the no whats it worth, never seen that on any other forums, that agian is helping people out both buyers an sellers to be educated on the prices they should list and buy things for. But this a thread about driveshafts not WFM rules, so back to the guy that offers rebuilt driveshafts on ebay...

Mike,
A lot of our rules do appear on other sites, Red Square comes to mind.

Bill,
If that person on ebay has his own website, then please post it. I have a 400 also, so this is of some interest to me.

Terry, I appreciate and thank you for the work you do on this site to keep things orderly. I'm sure it is a big and often thankless job and is not one that I would want to do. I understand that it is far easier to delete all offending links than to look at each and determine if it really breaks the purpose of the rule. It's just that zero tolerance polices tend to annoy me as the result often runs counter to the goal of the organization. That's all I have to say about that. Again, thanks for all you do

BTW, I did receive a PM from a gentleman who said he had purchased a couple 317 shafts from him and they were wobbly. Doesn't seem like it would be too hard to build a balanced shaft. Like to hear of any other feedback.

I would vote to DIY

If some guy is rebuilding them for that, he is making the money. Not a problem. It is the American way.

I'm simply voting for DIY; unless you live in an apt building and/or have no friends that are willing to help, then yes. His service would be wonderful. But then I ask....why do you have a 400 parked outside the apt building?????????

The link on this site to rebuild one aka DIY is a gem/welth of knowledge.

Scott, there is no doubt I would build one before I'd pay $744 dollars to Deere. I've seen the DIY threads on here, and if I'm remembering correctly, the cost for parts was in the range of what this guy is charging. IF he builds quality shafts, I'd pay a little more not to have to build one. Especially since I don't own a 400, but would be doing the replacement for a mechanically challenged friend.

THat is what I did as well. You CAN rebuild one if it hasn't destroyed itself, yet. You would know by looking at it. If the two crosses are out of alignment,i.e. holes in block are egged, you have a lot of play.

If the bearings are gone that isn't the problem as they are replaced as well as the dowel the bearings ride on.
