I'm new to the forum and have a couple of questions
I have a JD 420 1991 or 1992 with a 60" Deck, the deck belt has chunks missing from it and I will be replacing it this weekend.
Looks to me like the deck will need to be removed to replace the belt so I was going to power spray it and change hydro fluid and filter and wanted to know what you recommend using to spray paint the deck that will be long lasting for rust protection etc.
Also, should I be changing the gear lube in the deck gear box and if so is it ok to use synthetic oil?

Thanks for any info.

It is easier to change with deck removed but it can be done with it on.

I have to remove the two outer bolts on the gearbox and loosen the two inner ones to move gear box up enough to get the belt on.

IIRC many recommend corn head grease for it.

Also good time to check the bearings too.

Other will chime in about the paint.

Valspar seems to be a good one.
