My brother has a 420 and there's a 54 blade for sale in our area that's for a 318. Anyone know if the mount is the same on both tractors? I looked around WFM for an attachment compatibility chart but I didn't see anything.

420 is a few inches wider. Would need some cutting and welding to work.

I often wondered this myself as I have a 420. So the front quick hitch is NOT the same on both the 318 and the 420. Correct? There has been several times I almost pulled the trigger on a plow setup from a 318 for my 420.

I use a 400 Plow blade on my 420... BUT I got a rod welded connecting the pins at the bottom. The 400 and 420 are the same width at the top. The 420 and 318 are the same width at the bottom. The 400 is the same width top and bottom.

I cut the ends off a 318 bracket and added 1" to each side, and replaced the bar underneath and welded it all back up. Works like a charm, and theres more 300 series available than the proper 420/430 ones. A 420 bracket cost more than the whole 318 blade, bracket, hydraulics, and new hoses I bought.

The 318 blade I used on my 420, cut the end plates off & welded 1" on each side then welded the end plates back on:

I bought the Frame Squeezer from Alz Welding and it broke after a few storms. It was hanging on by one side for a while. Once I figured out it was broken my plow mount was twisted beyond repair. After that I made a new mount from scratch to fit my 420. It came out very nice and am very happy with it.

I have made 2 400 mounts into 400 420 430 mounts. I just knock the nubs out and add a bar across the lower mount. I use to worry that it would bend and require braces but after years of sever use it hasn't bent any at all. I don't mean for this to be a for sale AD but if anyone is looking for a converted mount I might have one to spare.

Dan.. your post made the little light bulb come on over my head. I happen to have a spare 400 mount. I forgot about it though. I bought it from a WFM'er years ago and used it on a 300 series 54 blade that I had on a 400. I later sold the blade. The spare mount opens up the possibilities for my brother. Now he just needs to find a 300 or 400 series 54 blade. Thanks for the idea
