I picked up a good running 1991 JD 420 this spring with hopes of making it a good functional tractor. It came without fenders or a deck. It never had a deck since it was new and the fenders were apparently too rusty so the previous owner removed and discarded them. My questions are...
1.) Will 318 fenders match up on a 420 besides the holes for the Hi/Low?
2.) Will a 445 60" deck fit on a 420 with minimal modification?

Yes, the fenderdeck from a 318 will fit , just cut the holes for the Hi/Low & Diff. lock! Thats what I used when mine was bad. ~~ Lowell

Sweet! Thanks for answering #1. Now I just need to find out about the mowing deck...there's one for sale locally for $1000 but I dont know if its worth it and how much Id have to switch around.

Adam, if I remember right, the deck on a 420 is driven via a driveshaft from the front and the 445 is driven via a driveshaft from the rear. I'm pretty sure you will not be able to make that deck work for you.

$1000 is a lot for a deck, There is a 60" deck for a 425 in good shape for sale here for $125 on CL. If you look around a little, you can save a bundle!

I have a free 420 fender pan for you all you have to do is drive over to Penfield from your place. They have rust on them, but nothing a sand blast and some paint can't fix. Shoot me an email, it is in my profile under my name to the left.

Or a Onan powered 316, thats what I'm using on one of my 420's,.. well, I used after carefully cuting holes in fender.
