Alexander,
That's what you're asking? How to mount the grille badge/emblem & keep it there? If so, it's not riveted & there is no original factory "clip" on the inside of the grille for a 420. Just the 2 flanged nuts are used to hold it into place on the inside. You can fab your own "clip" or "bracket" for the inside (I used plumbing strap), OR get a different model badge/emblem that comes with a back\inside bracket. Bobo

hi guys, Just wanted to mention , make sure its very secure once you install it. Last fall i was mowing with my 420, when i heard a terrible sound under the deck . I backed up to see that my grill had fallen off and i had mowed it up into a pier of scrap steel!!!!!!!
so jus make sure its secure, LOL

I believe Alexander and Gary are on the same page, they're referring to the upper spring clip that holds the grille in place. I don't know how you guys confused it with mounting the medallion.

Nick,

I have found it helpful to insert a Phillips type screw driver through the front of the grille into the round hole of the spring clip and pry downward slightly which will "open" the clip allowing the grille to pop into place without so much hammering force on the face of the grille to get it installed.............Gary

Now that we've brought up medallions, are these things one size fits all or originally specific to the model? I purchased one for my 317 awhile back and never mounted it. I thought about using that for the 420 and the cutouts seem way off. Whether I put it on or leave it off probably doesn't make a difference, but some clarification would put this to rest. The grill is nice and straight, clips firmly in place, and looks beautiful without a badge.

Alex,

The medallions are not the same. The models 300, 312, 314, 316K's and 317 use a different medallion because they each have a "bar" on the centerline of the grille opposed to the 316 O's 318, 322, 330, 332, and 420's which have a "space" on the grille centerline. The JD number for the earlier medallion is #M84353 and the later tractor medallion is #M76645............Hope this helps you.......Gary
