I am having a problem with my 420 steering The first time I use it each day it requires turning the steering wheel approx. 1/2 to 3/4 round before the tires move. The hydraulic fluid is topped off and everything else works fine. If it is the steering valves will a valve assembly from a 318 fit

Depends on serial numbers involved in both tractors . There was a serial no. break , where they changed over to a five port valve from a 4 port valve . Other than that , they are the same steering control valve .

or get a rebuild kit which might be a better idea as the 318 ones may need a rebuild as well

Does the symptoms I described indicate a bad steering valve?

it could be, do you have a pressure guage to test at the cylinder?
